With the increasing prevalence
of sophisticated fraud through techniques such as Man-in-the-Middle
and Man-in-the-Browser, many transactions
requiring branch or telephone banking, or the completion of paper-based
forms with signatures, are considered too high risk for Internet deployment.
Other manual transactions have simply not been considered as they traditionally
have not necessarily been seen as financial transactions as
distinct to account maintenance, e.g. Address Changes, and the potential
impact, in terms of both cost and convenience of Strong
Authentication on these transactions, has not been taken into account.
This,
however, fails to recognise the wider implications and potential
cost benefits that can be achieved through
the implementation of Strong Authentication and Transaction Verification,
creating business enabling opportunities
from today's manual processes.
