In March 2008 the UK Payments Association, APACS, released its 2007 card fraud figures. A key statistic was the 77% increase
in card fraud committed overseas using stolen UK card details, bringing UK card fraud committed abroad to almost 40% of total
card fraud losses. The latest October 2008 figures show overseas card fraud has risen by 190% over three years to stand at
£121.2m for 07/08. Actual fraud losses through ATM and PoS transactions, whilst providing the headline numbers, form only part
of the cost to Issuing banks. Transaction monitoring, false-positives and the resolution of both those genuinely fraudulent
transactions and false-positives alike contribute greatly to the real cost of cross-border card fraud. VALid-POS dramatically alters
the way cross-border card-present fraud is detected and resolved, providing massive savings from reducing both false-positives
and actual fraud losses. VALid-POS is designed to work in real-time, i.e. as part of the actual authorization process,
or in post-processing mode using the VALid-POS Case Resolution Console.
